
Lady Starlight was a performer Gaga had a relationship with during that time. Vince Herbert signed Gaga to Streamline Records in 2007 after an appearance on Lollapalooza Festival. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during an experience with Famous Music Publishing. This firm was later bought by another company and rebranded as Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Then she was hired to compose songs for the support of Britney Spears and labelmates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. Gaga's first album, "The Fame", was released in 2008 to little media attention. Gaga went on tour across Europe as well as in the US to promote the album. It was not until Gaga got her first big hit, "Just Dance", that mainstream attention began to get to the industry. Gaga suffered from a labral tear in her right leg which she was secretly nursing for several weeks so that she could go on the tour. She was unable walk after a show in Toronto and was in severe pain. The tour was canceled.
